When the laser hair removal technician presses the Light Sheer Duet Laser to your skin, it first gently draws your skin into the hand piece with a vacuum. This both stretches the skin thin and draws the hair, the target, closer to the energy source. Stretching reduces the density of melanocytes in the skin, and restricts blood vessels, blanching the skin. This means less energy is absorbed by the epidermis and by the oxyhemoglobin. Because less energy is lost to these areas, more energy is focused on the hair follicles. Follicular melanin absorbs the laser energy, building heat and damaging the hair follicle’s ability to regrow.
Following follicular destruction, the debris of hair cells will shed out and will fill with dermal fibers after approximately one month. It is important to note that because each individual hair cell on the body can be found in a different stage of growth (anagen, catagen, or telogen), the process of permanent hair reduction can take between 4 to 8 treatments, spread out over 4 to 6 weeks between each treatment.
