Washing your face too often, or more than twice daily, isn’t helpful either. It could strip your skin of too much of its natural oils. Use water that is warm, but not hot, and a mild cleanser meant for the face.
Moisturize
Moisturizing your skin is important, especially if you’re using an acne product to help prevent breakouts. Many acne products dry out the skin. Look for moisturizers labeled “noncomedogenic,” which means it shouldn’t cause acne.
Hands Off
Avoid touching your face with your hands whenever possible! This includes propping your chin or cheeks in your hands. Your hands are covered in bacteria, which you want to keep as far from your face as possible.
Beware Hair
Certain things that you put on your hair can affect your skin poorly. Fragrances, oils, pomades, or gels put in your hair can easily get on your face, where they can block your skin’s pores and irritate your skin. Use a gentle shampoo and conditioner to keep your hair clean, because oily hair can encourage breakouts. If you have long hair, wear it pulled back and away from your face.
Relax
Breakouts are often related to stress. If you find yourself breaking out a lot, try finding out what’s stressing you. Take time to breath and do something enjoyable and relaxing, and your skin will relax too.
